Background of AMPT Organisation and AMPT Conferences:
Advances in Materials and Processing Technologies (AMPT) conference series was founded in 1990 at the Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland and AMPT conferences were held there in 1993, 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2018. Outside of Ireland it has been held in Portugal in 1997, Malaysia in 1998, Spain in 2001, Poland in 2004, USA in 2006, Korea in 2007, Bahrain in 2008 and Malaysia in 2009. AMPT 2010 was held in Paris, France, in Istanbul in 2011, in Wollongong, Sydney 2012, in Taipei, Taiwan in 2013, in Dubai in 2014. In December 2015 it was held in Madrid, Spain. The AMPT2016 conference was held in November 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In year 2017 the AMPT2017 conference was held in VIT Chennai, India, AMPT2019 was held in Taipei, Taiwan and planned to be held in Slovenia in 2020. Due to COVID19 pandemic and subsequent safety and travel restrictions, the conference is postponed. There are expressions of interest to hold the AMPT conference in Brazil, Japan, Malaysia and Turkey in the following years. Typically, AMPT Steering Committee headed by Prof. M.S.J. Hashmi will analyse the proposals submitted by Universities across the globe for the conduct of AMPT Conference at their organization and finalise its decision at its annual meeting during the conference.
The AMPT conference series provides a forum for academics, researchers, and practicing engineers to meet and exchange innovative ideas and information on all aspects of material processing technologies.
A new journal titled Advances in Materials and Processing Technologies (JAMPT) has been launched from January 2015, published by Taylor and Francis Publishers. About 100 selected peer reviewed papers from the AMPT2014 conference have been published in this journal in 2015 in four issues. About 185 other peer reviewed papers have also been published in a number of other journals/periodicals.
All papers accepted for presentation at the AMPT conferences are peer reviewed for publication and about 120 selected papers are published in the regular issues of the Journal of AMPT published by Taylor & Francis publishers and the remaining papers approved by the reviewers are published in special issues of some of the following Journals/periodicals:
Journal of Manufacturing Science & Technology, Advanced Materials Research, and International Journal of Material Forming.
Organising/Hosting AMPT Conferences and Process of Accounting:
Usually a leader of a group of academics affiliated to a university or Research Institute or Members of a Professional Institution team up to make a proposal to host AMPT conference in a particular year. Once the proposal is approved by the Steering Committee, the lead person of the proposing group signs an MOU which sets out the terms and conditions for organising the AMPT conference including financial accounting.
AMPT Steering Committee does not get involved with the university or research institution of affiliation of the proposing group who may have separate arrangement to use the financial accounting section for
- Receiving all the incomes
- Paying all the expenses
- Preparing the balance sheet
- Paying the agreed share of Profit to AMPT, and
- Paying the agreed share of the Profit to the Organising Committee.
Some Organisers undertake such accounting responsibility by themselves assigning specific member(s) of the Organising Committee for the task. This requires opening an account with a local bank. However, this is a matter between the Local Organising Committee to decide, AMPT Steering Committee does not dictate the accounting responsibility selected by the local Organising Committee. In every case, the members of the local Organising Committee takes full control of the process either by themselves or in collaboration with their university/Institution Finance Section.
In the event of the local Organising Committee making net loss, the AMPT Organisation may agree to make up the loss from its reserve fund. However, to date AMPT conferences have been organised for 19 times and each time the conference made profits of various amounts.
AMPT Governance and Members of the
Steering Committee (Updated in 2015)
AMPT Organisation’s general affairs are managed by the Chairman of the Steering Committee and ratified by the members of the Committee present at its annual meeting held during the AMPT conference. The statement of account of income and expenditures during the year is also presented by the Chairman at this meeting for ratifying and approval by the Steering Committee. Each AMPT conference is attended typically by 5 to 10 members of the Steering Committee who take the decision and the chairman circulates the report to all members of the committee after the conference. The decision on the venues of the next conferences is decided by the majority vote by the members of the Steering Committee. All Proposals (Bids) for hosting any AMPT conference are circulated to the members of the Steering Committee for voting and the venue with most support gets to be selected. The Chairman then notifies the proposers of the success of their Bid and invites them to sign a MOU indicating their willingness to accept the terms and conditions for Organising the AMPT conference.
